Dit schilderij is geïnspireerd op een koude, mistige novemberochtend tijdens een wandeling door een natuurgebied. Op zulke ochtenden hangt de mist laag boven het water en worden kleuren zachter en gelijkmatiger. Het landschap komt tot rust.
Het werk toont stil water met riet en kleine stukken land die door de mist heen zichtbaar worden. Door de lage mist verdwijnen scherpe lijnen en ontstaat er ruimte voor licht, reflectie en nuance. Het kleurgebruik bestaat voornamelijk uit zachte blauwgrijze tinten, wat bijdraagt aan de rustige uitstraling van het geheel.
Ondanks het grote formaat blijft het schilderij ingetogen. Het domineert de ruimte niet, maar brengt juist rust en balans. Het nodigt uit om even stil te staan en te kijken, zonder dat het om aandacht vraagt.
