This painting is the final work in the Grimm series, inspired by the unsettling atmosphere found within the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. In this series, the forest itself becomes a silent character. Beautiful on the surface, yet deeply untrustworthy.
At first glance, this winter forest appears open, calm and pristine. Snow softens the landscape, and the cool light creates a sense of stillness. But closer inspection reveals something uneasy. The bare branches twist and coil overhead, resembling thick, vein-like forms stretched across the sky — organic, aged, and quietly threatening.
The narrow path draws the viewer inward, but subtle traces suggest that something has been dragged along it, against its will, disappearing deeper into the forest. What happened remains unclear, yet the implication lingers.
In the mist to the left, a vague shape seems to be waiting… or perhaps watching. Whether real or imagined, its presence unsettles the balance of the scene.
The painting explores the quiet menace hidden beneath apparent clarity, echoing the Grimm tradition where danger often disguises itself as beauty.
