Oak I is an abstract painting inspired by the dense, layered structure of oak bark. Thick applications of paint and pronounced palette-knife marks create a tactile surface in which colour, texture and movement are tightly interwoven. Vibrant yellow-green passages emerge from darker, earthy tones, cool blues and areas of white. The painting translates its physical presence into abstraction: overlapping layers, rough edges and moments of resistance where paint accumulates and breaks. The result is a surface that invites close viewing. Oak I is part of the ongoing series BARK, in which natural textures serve as a point of departure for abstract explorations of materiality, structure and paint.
